Botox was originally approved by Health Canada in 1990 for use in a number of

disorders caused by overactive muscles. It wasn’t until 2001 that Botox was approved

for esthetic purposes. Today esthetic uses for Botox include reducing frown lines

between the brows, forehead lines, crows feet and lifting the eyebrows.

Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium which

reduces the activity of muscles. As these muscles relax the skin that covers them

appears smoother and less wrinkled.

Botox treatments are a simple 10-15 minute non-surgical process. The doctor will

administer several tiny injections of Botox directly into the muscles that cause the

lines. No anesthesia is required, although your doctor may choose to numb the area

with a cold pack. An anesthetic cream can be applied prior to injection. Discomfort is

usually minimal and brief.

You can expect to be in and out of the office with no downtime, you can have a

treatment on you lunch hour and no one will be the wiser.

Within days you will start to see improvement, lines will continue to improve for up to

a month and results will last up to 4 months. Although results are visible it will not

radically change your face, the muscle activity is simply reduced so you will still have

facial expression just without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

To maintain your results you will need to have a treatment every 3 -4 months at first, if

you keep up with your maintenance the time between treatments will likely increase.

If you allow the Botox to completely wear off it is difficult for the doctor to see how

your individual muscles reacted and therefore optimal results for your face are harder

to achieve.

Not all facial wrinkles are caused by the use of underlying muscles. Some lines and

folds are cause by sun exposure, the natural aging process and smoking. Many of these

deeper wrinkles can be dramatically improved with a filler substance such as Juvederm.

& PERLANE

appearance. Over time, your skin begins to lose hyaluronic acid and collagen, resulting in

fine lines, wrinkles and a loss of fullness and elasticity. Healthcare professionals can

now correct wrinkles and folds, add volume to sunken skin and enhance lips, reversing

the signs of aging.

dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid which is a naturally

occurring sugar

in the body. It can be used for filling out lines and wrinkles around the

mouth, eyes, nose

and forehead. In addition your mouth can be made fuller and more

sensuous by

enhancing the lip in order to produce a better definition and reduction in

lipstick bleed.

The lips can also be given a greater volume and fuller appearance by this

simple

technique. Facial contouring, for example cheek and chin dimples, and hollows

under the

eyes can be filled to create a smoother look.

Treatment involves injecting the product into the mid to deep dermis and usually takes 15

to 30 minutes depending on what you are having corrected. There is very little downtime,

side effects such a bruising and swelling may last 2-7.

Effects of

estylane and Perlane

will last 9-12 months depending on your type of skin, the

area being

treated and the amount injected. The effect on lips us usually 4-6 months

because of the

high vascularisation of the lips. To maintain the look of your results you

should have

treatments on your facial areas every 6-9 months and on your lips every 3-5

months.
